The whimsical label on Wolffer Estates' , La Ferme Martin probably tells us as much about Christian Wölffer, the founder / owner of this sprawling South Fork winery as it does about the wine. It depicts a stylized polo player pouring himself a glass of wine and alludes to Mr. Wölffer's avid interests in viniculture and all things equestrian.
The 170 acre Wölffer complex on the East End of Long Island encompasses the expansive equestrian center, Sagpond Stables, Sagpond Farms and the state-of-the-art, Wölffer Estate Vineyards Winery, which was recently completed at a cost of more than 15 million dollars.

The company produces a wide variety of high quality yet moderately priced wines which have made the Wölffer label a staple at leading restaurants and wine merchants.

The responsibility of producing the more than 13,000 cases of Wölffer product falls to Roman Roth, winemaker, and Richard Pisacano, the vineyard manager. Both men have built solid reputations for their skills and are widely respected in the industry.

As his patron, Christian Wölffer, Roman Roth is a native of Germany, where he began his winemaking education and career . He then traveled to Carneros, California to work in the industry there and before coming to Wölffer, he further honed his winemaking skills at the well known Rosemount Estate in New South Wales, Australia.

Complimenting Roth's exceptional skills as a winemaker is the talent of Richard Pisacano, the Long Island-born vineyard manager. Richard has worked in the industry since his high school days and has held positions of responsibility at vineyards on both the North and South Forks. Before coming to Wölffer, he operated his own boutique winery.

This dinner came about in a somewhat unusual way for us in that it was sponsored by a third party. In the fall of 2001, Gore Medical Products, held several days of meetings in Southampton. They capped off the proceedings by treating the attendees to a Vintner's Dinner featuring the wines of Wölffer Estates, the well known and highly respected Eastern Long Island producer.

The winery was ably represented by wine- maker, Roman Roth, who guided the diners through the six course presentation. Each course was paired with a Wölffer offering specially selected by Roman, himself.

As there is no better way to create a spirit of camaraderie than to share in a spectacular dinner and some fine wine with one's colleagues, we feel that this was a creative way for an organization to instill a feeling of unity and a singularity of purpose among it's employees.
